The Trainforest is a small-scale replica of an old-time train, created with the aid of modern electricity in order to guarantee the safety of our clients. Ride with an experienced Costa Rican cowboy and enjoy the wonderful scenery of the Monteverde zone. A great way to visit the San Luis waterfall is on horse. This ride takes a total of 5.5 hours. Not all of the time is spent on a horse as you will need to hike along the river to reach the waterfall. The trip commences with a 2-hour ride down into the valley of San Luis adjacent to Monteverde.

For those who wish to observe wonders hidden in the forest after dark, we offer guided nigth hikes. The tour begins just before nigthfall, allowing us to see a wide variety of nocturnal critters.

This large reserve is one of the most outstanding wildlife sanctuaries in the Americas and includes eight distinct ecological zones. It protects more than 400 species of birds and over 100 species of mammals. In addition to the spectacular Resplendent Quetzal, you may see the endangered Bellbird, or Emerald Toucanet. There are also 30 species of hummingbirds.

The Reserve has 13 kilometers of paths and trails open to daily visitors in an area called The Triangle . This area covers 2% of the Preserve. The paths start at the entrance of the Preserve. Two trails to the north and west of the Triangle lead to the shelters in the cloud forest and may be used under special circumstances. Natural History Walks , includes a 22 minute slide show and a guided tour in the cloud forest, with an experienced nature guide.

The Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve of Monteverde is one of the first community administered reserves in the country (not a national park, but under the protection of the Arenal Conservation Area). It is an excellent example of what people can do to preserve and learn from their environment.  The reserve was created out of a community's determination to help preserve the unique cloud forest surrounding them and to use tourism as a tool to benefit community development in Monteverde. Entrance fees are used for the protection and management of the Reserve and to provide higher quality education for schools of Monteverde.
